Haven't played an MMORPG in some time and would like to try some of the free offerings on Steam or elsewhere. Now that all of these titles have seen numerous content additions and bug fixes, which do you think are the best to play now? Age of Conan DC Universe Online Lord of the Rings Online Star Trek Online Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (yes, the only non-steam title I'm looking at) Planetside 2 Everquest 2 Champions Online Dungeons & Dragons Online MidnightBossman My opinion: Everquest 2 - SOE just loosened their free to play restrictions. You can now access all the race/class combinations except for the one dlc race and the beastmaster class added by the recent expansion. EQ2 is extremely top heavy with most players at end game. Role-playing Game (also known as Roleplaying Game and RPG) is a genre of video game where the player controls the character in the fictional setting. Has the best housing system of any mmo, tons of roleplaying tools like SOEmote and race specific languages. Extreme amounts of content. However, while you will be able to go through the entire leveling process solo or in the occasional small group once you reach endgame things get a little stupid. For the raids everyone is doing you'll need to buy the latest two expansions. That's a 60+ dollar investment right there. Also if you want your character to look unique you're going to have to shell out real money. Planetside 2 - Get in an outfit (guild). You can play the game as a pubbie but it gets stale pretty quick just following the zerg around. Things get significantly more enjoyable when you're in a coordinated outfit that applies metagame and actual tactics to win fights. Star conflict - space shooter, you level up and get new skills, new ships, the higher the ship tier the more you can customize them, there is almost no grind at all since it's so fun to play SWTOR - played inquisitor for the single player storyline which was awsome, at times you forget it's a mmo and it feels like KOTOR. The PvP is ok. PvE is great, though maybe it's a bit too easy, I dunno. It's worth it just to play a char to 50 and enjoy the class storyline. Bloodline champions - arena style game, 100% skill based, gets boring once you meet far superior players who just destroy you but it's nice to play couple times a day/week Blacklight Retribution - I enjoy the zombie defence mode Atlantica online - you need to pay eventually or leveling up will be an insane grind, I only played till level 50 or so and got bored, but it is a wonderful experience till then. It's a completely new aproach to turn-based play that I never seen so far. Once you learn the PvP you can just watch high level games ( you also get random rewards just for watching ). Atlantica online is years ahead of most games in some aspects, but the grind is pretty insane though and solo PvE gets really boring, really fast.
